Step 1 – Learn About Amateur Radio

The American Radio Relay League (ARRL) provides excellent resources for beginners, including information about Amateur Radio, the different FCC license classes, and recommended study materials.

Step 2 – Study for the Technician License

Most new operators begin by earning the Technician Class License, which provides access to:

• Local repeater communications
• Emergency communications
• Public service events
• Digital radio modes
• Many VHF/UHF operating privileges
• Entry into the exciting world of Amateur Radio

Many people successfully prepare using online study guides, books, videos, and free practice exams.

Step 3 – Take Your FCC Exam

When you’re ready, the Larkfield Amateur Radio Club hosts Volunteer Examiner (VE) testing sessions throughout the year.

Our volunteer examiners will guide you through the testing process in a friendly and welcoming environment.
